Underneath our feet lies a hidden treasure – aquifers. These are vast underground reservoirs filled with freshwater. It’s like having secret rivers flowing beneath us, and they are the source of our drinking water in Collier County. But how does this hidden treasure make its way to the surface?

The Journey of Our Drinking Water

Large pumps are used to draw water from these aquifers, bringing it up to the surface where it can be treated and distributed to our homes and businesses. Once our water has been pumped to the surface, it’s transported via pipes to two water treatment plants in Collier County. The water goes through a treatment process to ensure it’s safe to drink. First, the water is filtered to remove impurities and particles. Then, it’s disinfected to eliminate any harmful microorganisms that might be present. After treatment, our water undergoes rigorous lab tests to meet the high standards set by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. These tests ensure that the water is not only safe but also of the highest quality. But the journey doesn’t end there. The water is then distributed to your home through a system of water mains and pipes.
